POSTED ON AUGUST 25, 2020

It was an absolute joy to write the score to this stunning animated short created by Cape Town Animations School’s incredibly talented class of 2019. The Boy and the Robin is a story of youthful fantasy intersecting with hard life lessons, shining a light on gun violence within the home. This heartfelt short was nominated for a #SAFTA award for ‘Best Student Film’ and won Gold at the 2020 New York Film and TV Awards in the same category. It has also been showcased by famed youtube animation channel CGMeetup garnering nearly 800 000 views!

Good Hope Documentary

POSTED ON JULY 6, 2020

Last year I co-composed the score to Elysian Film’s Good Hope; a fascinating documentary directed by Anthony Fabian exploring South Africa’s ‘past, present and possible future’ (goodhopedoc.com). Good Hope provides an incredibly relevant look at what needs to be achieved in order to overcome past racial injustices committed in South Africa, in ultimately realising the country’s true potential. As a fellow South African I was proud to be a part of this powerful film. Buy or rent the film here and take a look for yourselves.

Shaun features in the LA Times

POSTED ON OCTOBER 11, 2018

Read about the nerve-wracking moment when I had to present my cue to composer Benjamin Wallfisch at Remote Control Productions, after having to rescore a scene from the very movie which he scored; Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness (2016), here in the LA Times. For more coverage, check out ASCAP’s video here.

ASCAP TV & Film Scoring Workshop

POSTED ON OCTOBER 11, 2018

Last Summer, I was off to Los Angeles for 4 weeks to attend the ASCAP TV & Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis. It was a phenomenal experience as I was amongst a select group of 12 participants accepted into the program and had the opportunity to meet the best in the business, and have my score recorded by the incredible Hollywood Studio Orchestra at the Newman Scoring Stage on the Fox lot. The program was covered by ASCAP here and you can take a listen to the final recording here!

Remote Recording

POSTED ON OCTOBER 11, 2018

Recently I finished orchestrating and recording the score to an exciting new animated short film using the fabulous Budapest Art Orchestra. No matter how many times I record with an orchestra, I’m always staggered at the quality and lushness a real orchestra brings to a film project. More details to follow.
